The Secretariat

The International Year of Planet Earth Corporation consists of two components: a Board responsible for decision-making and representing all stakeholders, and a Secretariat managing day-to-day operations as instructed by the Board. This structure became effective by January 1st, 2007.

In may 2006, a call was placed for proposals to host the IYPE Secretariat. The IYPE Initiators (IUGS and UNESCO) evaluated the bids resulting in the selection of the Norwegian Geological Survey (NGU) in Trondheim, Norway as the hosting organization for the IYPE Secretariat. Simultaneously, the Initiators appointed Prof. Eduardo de Mulder as the IYPE Executive Director, responsible for the Secretariat’s performance.
